2020 Hyundai Verna vs 5th-Gen Honda City: Which one should you choose?

As soon as Hyundai launched the facelift version of its best-selling sedan in the Indian market it's biggest competitor Honda came in with the 5th Generation of City, putting back charm to the C-Segment Sedan. The Rivalry between the Hyundai Verna and Honda City is an old and legendary one. Since both the cars have been updated by their manufacturers it is now even tougher which one to choose?

Exteriors

Talking in terms of styling the new Verna gets a bigger and blacked-out grille, along with new sets of headlamps and tweaked front and back bumper making the car even sportier in appeal. However, it is the 5th Gen City which excels in terms of length and width even though both the car runs on the same wheelbase. The City does come with a fresh front bumper with a bold chrome finish on the grille. It also gets all-LED headlamps and fog lamps adding to its premium appeal. Further, the City gets a new L-signature LED taillamps reminding you of the BMWs.

Interiors and Features

Both cars come with the same level of the interior but it's the Verna which has a slightly better quality. The turbo variant of Verna gets an all-black cabin with red accents, which looks very sporty. When it comes to space whether its legroom, headroom, or boot space it is City which excels in all. Both the sedan comes with an 8-inch multi-infotainment system, sunroof, keyless go with a push start and automatic headlamps.

The Verna gets an all-digital instrument cluster with a 4.2 inch MID. On the other hand, City runs on a semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7 inch MID. City gets a first in segment lane change monitor camera while the turbo variant of Verna is equipped with front parking sensors. The Honda City misses out on something simple yet significant i.e. 'wireless charging' which is there in the new Verna.

Engine and Gearbox

The Verna gets 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Meanwhile, the City comes runs on 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. Both the engines get a 6-speed MT while the petrol engine also gets a CVT. Petrol and Diesel unit of Verna is mated to a 6-speed MT while the turbo variant only offers DCT with paddle shifters. The city’s petrol engine churns out 121 PS at 145 Nm of torque compared to Verna’s 115 PS and 144 Nm. The Verna’s turbo petrol engine produces 120 PS and 172 Nm.

Price

Both cars come with a similar starting price tag. Hyundai Verna is priced at 10.90-18.18 lakhs while Honda City has been priced between 10,89,900 lakhs to 14,64,900 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
