2021 EcoSport To Lose The Tail-Gate Mounted Spare Wheel?

Cut-throat competition in the Compact SUV market has compelled American auto-maker, Ford to revise their popular SUV, the EcoSport. The sub-4-metre vehicle has been a great success for the Ford Motor Company in Indian as well as European markets, which is why the automaker has been consistently working to keep it updated by launching new facelift versions to meet new norms and the changing demands of customers.

Ford is now all set to introduce a new SE variant of the EcoSport by 2021 itself.

Currently, EcoSport is available in five variants – Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, Titanium+, and the S variant. The new SE variant is expected to be placed somewhere between the Sports and Titanium+ variant.

So what's new in the SE variant? Well, the new variant comes with a redesigned rear where it no more gets the tail-gate mounted spare wheel. Instead, it gets a fresh tailgate with a faux skid-plate on the rear bumper. The space for the license plate has been moved up towards the centre of the boot lid with chrome finishing above it. The SE variant of EcoSport is also equipped with a projector setup headlamp, DRLs, and body-coloured spoiler, and roof rails.

This new trim of the EcoSport is similar to its Euro-Spec version which is also manufactured in India. It is expected that same as its Euro-Spec version the SE variant will not be equipped with a spare wheel at all. Rather, it will come with tubeless tyres, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a puncture repair kit. The interior of the car will remain the same.

Ford EcoSport SE will most likely be powered by the same 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engine for the standard versions. However, rumours are that the EcoSport might share Mahindra's upcoming 1.2-litre turbocharged mStallion petrol engine which might produce over 130 HP.
