2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV Pickup Unveiled

Ford has finally unveiled their first fully electric offering in the F-Series Pickup range. The new F-150 Lightning is a promising new pickup that is willing to go against the likes of the Rivian R1T and the popular Tesla Cybertruck, both of which are expected to be launched by next year.

On the design front, Ford continues with the F-150 design language with some extras. This includes signature LED lightbars that run across both the front and rear. The pickup also gets three new grille designs and a newly sculpted hood to improve the aerodynamics. The Lightning EV Pickup will also feature a new 360-degree Zone Lighting system, which can light up a specific zone or the entire area around the vehicle.

Inside there is a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch infotainment display. The higher variants will also get a 15.5-inch vertical screen with the SYNC4A system. There are four electrical outlets and two USB chargers. Ford also offers the F-150 Lightning with BlueCruise that allows for hands-free driving. Ford promises that these features will improve over time with the software updates.

Under the hood, the F-150 Lightning is powered by dual electric motors which produce a total of about 563 HP and 1050 Nm of peak torque. The F-150 Lightning can also take an extra payload of 2,000 pounds or tow about 10,000 pounds. The commercial variant comes with 18-inch wheels as standard, while the mid variant and top variant get 20-inch and 22-inch wheels respectively.

The F-150 Lightning also offers a 4x4 system with different drive modes such as Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and Tow/Haul. The Lithium-Ion battery pack inside the F-150 Lightning is expected to range between 115 and 150 kWh. With the super-fast DC charger, the F-150 Lightning can be fully charged from 15 to 80% in just 41 minutes.

The F-150 Lightning will be available for purchase from next year with the commercial-oriented entry model starting at $39,974 MSRP, before any federal or state tax credits. With a $100 deposit, customers can also reserve a spot in the line with the delivery commencing from 2022. The F-150 Lightning will be available in four variants and two battery options in America.
