2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 Supersport Officially Unveiled

Yamaha has finally gone ahead and unveiled the latest member to its R-Series Line-up globally. The new R7 is a supersport bike specifically designed for attracting younger riders towards the brand’s sporty R-Series. The new R7 is available in two colour schemes: Performance Black and Team Yamaha Blue. The bike will be available for purchase from June 2021, in the European region. Once launched, the R7 will be taking on the Aprilia RS660 and Kawasaki Ninja 650 in the middle-weight sports bike segment. Yamaha has no plans of launching this bike in India anytime soon.

On the design front, Yamaha has continued with the aggressive styling as seen on the R6, but there are some subtle variations added here and there to distinguish the R7 from its younger sibling. The new R7 also gets a fully revised front end with a single-pod headlight instead of the twin-pod LED units seen on the R6. Along with the LED headlight positioned to give it a twin-beam design, the new R7 also gets twin LED DRLs giving it a menacing face at the front. The front windscreen also gets taller than its predecessor. Other additions include a clip-on handlebar, split seat setup, rear-set footpegs, and underbelly exhaust with a short muffler.

The 2022 R7 looks sleeker than the R6, thanks to the all-new lightweight backbone style frame, resulting in much responsive and agile handling for fast and nimble directional changes. To add more stability, the R7 is fitted with inverted front forks and weighs in at just 188 kgs. In terms of power, the new R7 is fitted with a 689cc parallel-twin engine that pumps out 72.4 BHP at 8,750 RPM and 67 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 RPM, while being paired to a six-speed gearbox. The Braking duties are handled by dual discs at the front and a single disc at the rear, assisted by dual-channel ABS. Stay tuned to AutoDaily India for more updates!
