India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero Motocorp, recently entered the competitive 160cc segment with the all-new Xtreme 160R. Hero MotoCorp already unveiled the Xtreme 160R in March but due to the lockdown situation, the dispatch of the motorcycle to dealerships was delayed in the country. It was in the month of August, Hero announced the price of the motorcycle. The Xtreme 160R with the rear drum is priced at 99,950/-(ex-showroom) whereas the rear disc trim costs Rs 1,03,500. However, the motorcycle comes only with single-channel ABS.
Design
Xtreme 160R is one of the most attractive looking motorcycles in its segment. Carrying the design language of naked sport, it gets a busy yet muscular styling, with grab rails integrated with the body, blacked-out handlebars, and alloy wheels with a mid-ship exhaust unlike any of the other Hero bikes.
Features
The Xtreme 160R offers some first in segment features. Like the All-LED headlamp, H-Shaped signature LED taillamps and all LED indicators. It also gets an all-digital instrument cluster which shows the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge. However, it misses out on a gear position indicator, unlike its other rivals. But it does get first in segment a hazard switch lights.
Powertrain
The all-new Xtreme 160R gets its power delivered from a 160cc air-cooled fuel-injected BS6 motor. This 160cc unit mated to a 5-speed gearbox which produces about 15.2PS and 14Nm of peak torque. This power figure is subordinate only by the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V whose 4-valve engine makes 16PS and 14.1Nm, marking the most power in the segment. As per the company, the Xtreme 160R takes only about 4.7 seconds to sprint 0-60 Kmph.
Dimensions
Now, talking about its dimensions the Xtreme 160R has compact dynamics along with being lightweight with weighing just 139.5 Kg. It runs on a 37mm Telescopic front forks and a 7-step adjustable rear mono-shock suspension. At the rear, it has got a 130/70-17” radial tyre which gives a good amount of confidence at high speeds and under heavy braking. It gets a set of 276mm front & 220mm rear petal disc brakes while the ground clearance stands at 170mm.
The bike comes with 3 colour options namely: Sports Red, Vibrant Blue, and Pearl Silver White. The Xtreme 160R is currently locking its horns with the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Bajaj Pulsar NS160, Suzuki Gixxer BS6, and Yamaha FZ FI V3 BS6.
