The Japanese two-wheeler giant finally brought the much-awaited CB650R and updated CBR650R on Indian shores through a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. Both CB 650R and CBR650R will be available in Honda's Big Wing showroom across the country at a starting price of Rs 8.67 lakh and Rs 8.88 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
Design & Dynamics
While the CBR650R got an update over the prevision version, the CB650R is a completely new bike in India. It is more like a naked version of CBR650R but it has the character of a Neo-Retro Cafe racer due to the round LED headlights and taillights and other bits of pieces. Both the bikes get a new LCD-display similar to the one Honda CB500X. The CBR650R gets a revised faring.
The Honda CBR650R will be offered in Grand Prix Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic colour options. Whereas, the Honda CB650R gets Candy Chromosphere Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic paint schemes.
Engine, Transmission & Safety
Updated to Euro-5 norms the 648cc four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine of international-spec of CBR650R produces 94hp and 64Nm of torque. But the India-spec CBR650R has been detuned to produces 84hp and 57.5Nm and it weighs 1kg more than the international-spec, taking the total to 211kg.
The most important of all updates is the SSF-BP (Showa Separate Function-Big Piston) USD forks at the front, unlike the previous Showa Separate Function forks. The SSF-BP is expected to make the handling even sportier than before.
Safety features include an emergency stop signal, a Honda ignition security system, a traction control, a slip/assist clutch, LED lighting all around, and dual discs at the front with four-piston brake calipers along with dual-channel ABS.
The CBR650R and CB650R will rival directly against Triumph trident 660 in terms of capacity and specifications and indirectly with the Kawasaki Z900 and Triple RS due to the similar price point.
