Kia has filed a trademark application for the Kia Soul nameplate in India, hinting at an imminent launch. As of now, we don’t know when will the carmaker will bring this car to the Indian market. However, if rumours are to be believed then Kia might launch the Soul hatchback as an EV in our country, which will take on the Tata Nexon EV in the INR 15-17 Lakh price range.
The Kia Soul comes with a pronounced lower grille, thin LED headlamps with narrow DRLs. It runs on 17-inch alloy wheels with boomerang-shaped taillamps. Inside is a dual-tone black and beige interior theme and has a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone app connectivity, accompanied by an 8-inch head-up display and a fully digital instrument console. Other features include a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 8-way power front seats, leather upholstery, heated seats, and automatic climate control.
In the global market, Soul is available in both petrol and electric powertrains. In the global market, Kia Soul comes with either a 1.6L turbocharged petrol or 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine with an output of 198bhp or 145bhp respectively. The turbo motor comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the naturally aspirated unit comes with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.
As we will likely be getting the electric model; we can expect a 64kWh battery with a range of 450 km on a single charge. This battery can be fully charged in 9.5 hours via an AC charger and in an hour via a DC charger. This battery powers a 205 PS electric motor that also produces 395Nm of peak torque.
