Recently, Kia has released images of its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) named EV6, which the Korean automaker will soon launch globally. The EV6 will be based on Kia's new EV platform (Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP) which also shares with its parent company Hyundai.
Kia has also come up with a new approach to name its EV lineup in the future starting from EV6. The company's all BEVs will start with the prefix ‘EV’ which will make it easy for customers to recognize which cars are fully electric. This is followed by a number that corresponds to the position of the car in the line-up, for example, '6' will refer to a car placed relatively higher in the line-up.
Looking at the images released by the company you will notice that the EV6 has many similarities in design with the Imagine concept which was showcased during the Geneva Motor Show back in 2019. The car gets Kia's heritage design elements like the sealed-off tiger grille, the taillights that appear to be running across the entire tailgate, sharp body lines, and all-LED headlights with matrix DRLs and indicators.
Kia claims a range of 500 km on a single charge and can be charged in around 20 mins with the right charger. It is also equipped with an autonomous driving tech, the HDA2 ( Highway Driving Assist Level 2).
The car is expected to be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2021.
