Earlier this week, the Japanese luxury carmaker showcased its all-electric product the Lexus LF-Z EV. The concept car conveys the auto manufacturer's approach with its future EVs. The company is all set to make its mark in the field of EV same as it did in the luxury segment.
Design
The LF-Z EV is based on a new dedicated EV platform dissimilar to the company's other electric vehicle. The LF-Z EV is styled like an SUV with the essence of Coupe.
It gets a distinctive wheel arch, a sharp fin on the roof, and a unique diffuser on the rear bumper, all of which are expected not to be incorporated in the production-spec variant. However, it does retain its hallmark grille but now it's a faux unit.
Interior & Features
Lexus has been working on a new concept called 'Tazuna’ cockpit for the interior. It is a driver-centered cockpit with a three-screen-display layout and features an open and minimalist design with a dimmable panoramic roof and missing B-pillar. The LF-Z Electrified will be equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) which learns from driver’s preferences and behavioral characteristics.
Powertrain & Electric Motor
The LF-Z gets a new four-wheel driving control technology called ‘DIRECT 4’. The system enables the flexible delivery of the power to both the front and the rear axle as per the requirement and preference of the driver. The LF-Z is powered by a rear-mounted 90kWh liquid-cooled, lithium-ion battery pack and electric motors that produce 543hp and 700Nm of torque. It takes about 3 seconds to do a quick 0-100kmph run and the top speed around 200kmph. The LF-Z EV has a WLTP-certified range of 600km on a single charge.
Lexus aims at launching 20 new or upgraded models – of which 10 will be a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric – by 2025 of which two will be launched later this year.
