Mahindra Based SsangYong Korando EV Unveiled

SsangYong has revealed the Korando e-motion, the brand’s first battery-electric vehicle, and will go on sale in international markets later this year.

Looking at the Korando e-motion, it reminds us of the Mahindra eXUV300 that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 in India. This EV features a smoother front bumper design with a blanked-off front grille. A blue detailing is present around the lower down part on the front bumper, the mirrors, and at the bottom of the rear doors.

There is also the presence of a different set of alloys. SsangYong Korando e-motion is built on the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. This is the same one upon which the upcoming eXUV300 will be built. The MESMA platform has a modular architecture that boasts a low-set, lithium-ion battery pack that can support multi-motor configurations.

The Korando e-motion features a 61.5kWh battery supplied by LG Chem. This has a driving range of 420km. but this test was based upon an outdated NEDC test cycle so there will be a change in the range based upon the new test parameters. We are expecting a range of around 322km if we consider the new WLTP test cycle.

Korando e-motion EV is powered by a 190hp electric motor, of which its performance figures are currently unknown. SsangYong is promising a "best-in-class" acceleration and a top speed around 152kph. As for the India launch, there is a very low possibility for that to happen since the Mahinda and SsangYong partnership has come to an end.
