Mahindra Defence a subordinate of Mahindra & Mahindra has signed a contract of Rs. 1056 Crore with the Ministry of Defence to Provide Indian armed forces with 1300 Light Specialist Vehicles ( LSV ) which are advanced tactical armoured vehicles. LSVs from many manufacturers went through rigorous testing of strength, reliability, performance, and it was the indigenous MDS LSV that passed in all. Mahindra has been given 4 years which is the year 2025 by which it has to deliver all the LST to the armed forces.
If you think that the MDS LSV is not up to par with the Hummer used in the US Army then you are wrong. MDS LSV has passed all the parameters which included field, technical and ballistic trials to be included in the Indian Army. As the OEM, MDS also has the necessary IP and capabilities in all aspects from the development of the LSV Variants to complete lifecycle support. These badass LSVs are something that the enemies would never want to see on the battlefield. Whether be it war or a peacekeeping mission these LSVs can outperform every other vehicle out on the field as they are super agile and offers all-round protection against small arms fire. One version of the MDS LSV is already in service with the Indian Battalion deployed in the UN Peacekeeping mission in Africa.
SP Shukla, Chairman, Mahindra Defence Systems, said, “This contract truly signifies the success of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. It is the first major contract for the advanced armoured tactical vehicles that are designed and developed by the private sector in India with intellectual property rights within the country. This contract paves the way for large-scale adoption of Indian platforms with indigenous capabilities.”
