Mahindra XUV300 Scores 5 Stars In The Global NCAP Crash Tests

The XUV300 now becomes Mahindra's first and India's third safest car.

The Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) recently gave the Mahindra XUV300 a 5-star rating, based on its crash tests. They tested the dual airbag variant of the XUV300, which was equipped with features such as ABS, SBR (Seat Belt Reminder), front seatbelt pretensioners and ISOFIX anchorages. The Mahindra XUV300 comes under the 5-door compact SUV segment and weighs over 1,637 kgs (including the weight of crash test dummies). These crash tests were carried out at a speed of 64 kmph, have a look!

In terms of adult occupant safety, the XUV300 offered a good amount of protection for both front passenger’s head and neck, while the driver’s chest showed adequate protection and the passenger’s chest received good protection. Apart from that, the driver and passenger’s knees and lower body were also protected pretty well and the bodyshell was rated as stable and was capable of withstanding further loadings too. Talking about child occupant safety, the car was fitted with many features such as ISOFIX mounts that helped prevent the excessive forward movement of the 3-year-old child dummy. The car also offers switchable passenger airbag in case an RWF CRS (Rear-ward Facing Child Restraint Seat) needs to be installed in the front passenger seat.

David Ward, CEO and President, Global NCAP, said, “Mahindra is the second Indian manufacturer to achieve Global NCAP’s coveted five-star status and the XUV300 scores the highest combined crash test result of all the cars we’ve tested in India to date. We are delighted with this hugely positive outcome in our #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. It’s a vitally important win for Indian consumers and sets a safety challenge that every manufacturer must now be measured against.”

Saul Billingsley, Executive Director, FIA Foundation, said, “In the space of just a few years Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia campaign has transformed both the public conversation and public policy on vehicle safety in India. Indian carmakers are stepping up and taking responsibility for protecting their customers. This result from Mahindra proves that five-star vehicle safety is possible and affordable, and we now expect all manufacturers to offer Indian consumers five-star protection, as standard.”
