OLA Is Getting Ready To Join The EV Race With Its New Scooter

India's largest hired mobility service firm, OLA has officially revealed the images of its upcoming electric scooter. OLA's electric scooter carries the same body and design as the Etergo App scooter, the Amsterdam-based EV firm that OLA Electric Mobility acquired last year. Ola Electric is setting up “the world’s largest two-wheeler mega-factory on its 500-acre site" in Tamil Nadu.

After completing a 500-acre land acquisition in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu in January 2021, OLA Electric will have a total capacity of 10 million units and will be ready by 2022. Phase 1 of the plant, with an annual capacity of 2 million units, will be ready by June 2021. According to the firm at full capacity, using 10 production lines, and more than 3000 robots, Ola estimates the production of one scooter every 2 seconds.

Based on the Etergo scooter, the OLA scooter will carry the same body and design which puts the EV in the category of a compact vehicle. Apart from the 6 kW (maximum power) electric motor, the OLA scooter is expected to offer a class-leading range of up to 240km on a single charge and class-leading acceleration of 0-45kph in 3.9 seconds. It will also come with a 7-inch TFT instrumentation cluster. The scooters get all-LED lighting with LED indicators, taillamps and, twin LED pods for the headlight.

The electric scooter rides on 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped by a 110-section tyre has disc brakes at both ends and accompanies a single telescopic fork up front and a mono-shock at the back tuned to the Indian riding environment.

The OLA Scooter will weigh around 74 kg making it a light and nimble machine. The company signed a Rs 2400 crore MoU with the Tamil Nadu government and will help to create 10,000 jobs. The company has ensured the conservation of the green belt in the area by preserving and transplanting the trees on site. The OLA Electric Scooter is expected to be aggressively priced to rival Ather’s 450X, Bajaj Auto’s Chetak, and TVS Motor Co's iQube.
