After making a lot of fuss in the Indian automobile sector, the Renault Kiger was finally launched on the 15th of February. With prices starting from INR 5.45 Lakh (ex-showroom), it is the most affordable compact SUV you can get your hands on. The car was first launched in India followed by other auto markets in the world. Kiger was designed and developed in India and just recently production began at its manufacturing facility in Chennai.
Design
The Kiger is based on Renault’s CMFA+ platform. At the front, It appears like Kwid gained some muscles on it. It has got a wide grille with chrome finishing flanked by LED DRLs and a split headlamp setup similar to the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector. It runs on 16” wheels with blacked finished diamond cut alloys in the higher variant. It has got black wheel arches jutting out of the side profile of the car and kink up on the rear door up to the C-Pillar.
It heavily borrows its rear design from the Renault Captur including inverted C-shaped taillights a black bumper with silver-coloured skid plates.
Interior
On the inside, it gets a 7” TFT display as an instrument cluster. An 8” touch infotainment system in the centre featuring android auto and apple car play along with steering mounted controls. it gets all-black treatment on the dashboard upholstery. Renault claims the cabin is one of the widest in its class but it can be a bit claustrophobic for the rear passengers due to the small windows and all-black interior theme. Renault is also offering plenty of accessories like a wireless charger and air purifier.
Engine & Performance
Renault Kiger will be available with 2 engine options: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 72 HP and 96 Nm of peak torque, and a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine churning out 100 HP and 160 Nm of peak torque. The naturally aspirated engine can be equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an AMT, while the turbocharged motor gets the option of a CVT as well.
The Renault Kiger will be available in 4 trims, namely – RXE, RXL, RXT, and RXZ, and 6 body colours, – Caspian Blue, Ice Cool White, Mahogany Brown, Moonlight Silver, Planet Grey, and Radiant Red, and all of them can also be availed with a dual-tone combination. Bookings are now open and customers can book their Kiger at any Renault authorized dealership or on its website by paying a token amount of Rs. 11,000/-.
