Today, the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) gave the Renault Triber a 4-star rating, based on its crash tests. They tested the dual airbag variant of the Triber, which was equipped with features such as ABS, SBR (Seat Belt Reminder) and driver seatbelt pretensioner. The Renault Triber comes under the 5-door compact MPV segment and weighs over 1,166 kgs (including the weight of crash test dummies). These crash tests were carried out at a speed of 64 kmph, have a look!
Adult Occupant Safety
The protection offered to the driver and passenger heads and necks was good. The driver’s chest showed marginal protection and the passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. The driver’s knees showed marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube while the passenger’s knees showed good protection. Driver and passenger tibias showed adequate protection. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. The footwell area was rated as stable. The car offers standard SBR for driver and passenger. All of the above-explained the four stars for adult occupant protection.
Child Occupant Safety
The child seat for the 3-year-old was installed FWF with the adult seatbelt and was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. Chest protection was average and the head protection was low as it was exposed during the crash. The 18-month-old CRS was installed with the adult seatbelt rearward-facing offering full protection to the child occupant. CRS marking was permanent. The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibility. The vehicle offers a lap belt in the rear centre position. The car does not offer ISOFIX anchorages. All of the above-explained the three stars for child occupant protection.
Alejandro Furas, Secretary-General of Global NCAP said, “Renault has significantly improved adult occupant protection performance in frontal crashes compared with our 2016 tests on the Kwid. The Triber sets a strong baseline for the manufacturer, and we encourage Renault to maintain this important progress as a minimum with the goal of achieving 5-star levels of safety.”
David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “It is satisfying to note Renault’s safety improvements with Global NCAP’s Triber crash test result. We would encourage them to continue this progress, and to set a five star or Safer Choice rating as their future target for the Indian market.”
