Top 10 Cars In India That Shares Same Engine

With many cars launched in India recently, we have seen many of them sharing nearly the same engine, but is a different vehicle overall. Sometimes these engines are developed by two brands together or some brands depend upon others to get the required engine they want, or even a brand can itself use a particular engine in their different offerings. This is a common practice in the industry as this helps brands to save money and time that they would have spent in designing entirely new engines for every car they produce. And we will be looking at some of the cars that we know share the same engine.

1. Renault Kwid and Renault Triber

Renault uses the 1.0-liter petrol engine for their Renault Kwid and Renault Triber. This engine comes with a powertrain, but it is tuned differently for its price point. The one in Renault Kwid can produce 67hp of peak power and 91Nm of maximum torque. And the one in Renault Tiber produces 71hp of max power and 96Nm of peak torque.

2. Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Maruti Suzuki is famous for using the same engine in many of its offerings. We will be here looking at the new Maruti Celerio and the Maruti WagonR. Both of these cars are the entry-level offerings from Maruti in their line-up, but at the same time, both target a different audience. As we all know, WagonR is famous for its tall-boy stance and Celerio being more sophisticated and simple in its looks.

Both these cars are powered by a 1.0-liter petrol engine. this engine produces 67hp of max power and 90Nm of peak torque, with both nearly being similar in how they deliver it. It is worth mentioning that WagonR gets an optional 1.2 liter which Celerio misses out on.

3. Hyundai Grandi10 Nios and Hyundai Verna

Next up is with Hyundai. For the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Verna, Hyundai uses the same 1.0-liter 3 cylinder GDI turbo petrol engine, with the engine tuned differently on both. The engine in Grand i10 Nios generates 100ps maximum power and 172Nm of peak torque, whereas in Verna it produces 120ps of max power and 172Nm of maximum torque.

4. Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger

For those who don’t know Renault and Nissan are under the same automotive group and this is the reason why we see many of their cars seem very similar in many aspects, and hence we see them sharing many things. Both Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger use the same 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine, that can produce 100ps of max power and 160Nm of peak torque.

5. Hyundai Creta and Kia Sonet

Next on the list is Hyundai Creta and Kia Sonet, They both carry the 1.5-liter turbo diesel that generates 115ps of max power and 250Nm of peak torque. This engine can only be used with automatic transmission.

6. Tata Altroz and Tata Tiago

Just like Maruti, Tata is also famous for using the same engine in their different offerings Tata loves to use the same specs across their line-up. These two new hatchbacks from the company share the 1.2-liter 3 cylinder petrol engine that produces 86ps of peak power and 113Nm of maximum torque. Tata hasn’t tuned the engines differently, so the output will be the same.

7. Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass

Many may not have expected this, but the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass. Shares the same 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, but Tata has modified the engine a little to suit the Harrier needs. But it still has the same 170ps of max power and 350 Nm of torque.

8. Honda City and Honda Amaze

Some may be happy to hear this, as Honda decided to provide the same engine to both City and Amaze. Since the implementation of the BS6 emission norms, people opting for a car with a diesel engine have become low, and so Honda decided to share their only diesel engine in their cars in India.

And thus 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine is shared between both Honda City and Honda Amaze. But, while both get the same engine, the one on the Amaze is lower on both power as well as torque in the automatic variant. As for the one in City and Amaze MT both produces 100ps of max power and 200Nm of peak torque.

9. Volkswagen T-ROC and Skoda Karoq

Just like Nissan and Renault, Volkswagen and Skoda group also shares their engines. This time it is with the Volkwagen T-Roc and Skoda Karoq. Both use the same 1.5-liter turbo petrol TSI engine that produces 150ps of max power and 250Nm of peak torque.

10. Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner

Not only the Toyota Innova and Toyota Fortuner share the same platform, but they also share the same petrol engine. But is powered by a 2.7-liter petrol engine that drives the rear wheels. This engine generates a decent produce 165ps of max power and 250Nm of peak torque
