Meet Volkswagen's First Fully-Electric AWD Performance SUV - The ID.4 GTX

German automotive giant, Volkswagen, recently unveiled the new ID.4 GTX, which is the brand’s first fully-electric high-performance model. The ID.4 GTX is the first AWD EV based on the MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) Platform and will be replacing the ID.4 electric SUV launched by Volkswagen last year. Thomas Ulbrich, member of the Board of Management for Development said, “The full torque of the electric powertrain is immediately available and you can feel the excellent vehicle handling in every bend. What’s more, the innovative operating and safety concept is just as intelligent as the drive train! For example, the driver is supported by the unique augmented reality head-up display and comprehensive assist systems.”

In terms of design, the ID.4 GTX comes with a fun and robust look, as it features a light strip combined with three honeycomb elements which also includes the DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). The vehicle gets a sporty character and a slight resemblance to the Golf GTI. The rear of the car, gets an eye-catching 3D LED tail light cluster, which also features brake lights that form an X. The rear-wheel-drive models get a touch of black finish for the roof and a rear spoiler, while the roof frame bar features new high-gloss anthracite colour. Inside the ID.4 GTX, Volkswagen has gone with a new colour scheme, as the upper section of the dashboard and doors get leatherette inserts with a dark shade of X-Blue, while the GTX logo makes its way to the steering wheel and replaces the traditional Volkswagen Logo.

Under the hood, the ID.4 GTX features two electric motors, one each on the front and rear axles. Together, these two motors deliver a maximum electrical output of 220 kW (295 HP). These motors can also work together to make the ID.4 GTX an electric AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) vehicle, this is the newest feature for the ID. Family.

At the launch event, Volkswagen showcased the power and efficiency of the ID.4 GTX, as it effortlessly climbed a ramp at an incline of 37.5%. The most top-end model of the ID.4 can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in just under 3.2 seconds and from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds. The vehicle can also achieve a top speed of 180 km/h.

The ID.4 GTX will be launched in Europe by the summer of 2021, with an entry-level price of 50,415 euros. With this new launch, Volkswagen is trying to give a boost to their all-electric ID Family. This is part of VW’s strategy to target the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the market. It also carries forward Volkswagen’s intention to become climate-neutral by 2050.
