Volkswagen Taigun Spotted Before Launch

It seems like Volkswagen is all set to launch the Taigun SUV in India, as one of the test models was spotted in Mumbai recently.

The upcoming Taigun can be considered as a sister model to the Skoda Kushaq which will be launching next week. Both Kushaq and Taigun share the same MQB-A0-IN platform. And will be having the same doors, roof, and glasshouse in common.

As for the differences, the Taigun gets unique front and rear, single-piece headlights, two-slat chrome grille, and chrome insert on the lower part of the bumper, thus differentiating itself from the Kushq, even though having some similarities in between them.

At the back, the Taigun has a tail-light cluster, that runs across the width of the tailgate, and the chrome accent on the rear bumper set.

Even tho having similarities in the dashboard, the Taigun gets differentiates itself with AC vents design and the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, that’s neatly incorporated into the dashboard. This system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the My Volkswagen connect the app to access the connected car features.

Taigun also features a digital instrument cluster which the Kushaq, misses. There will be also automatic climate control, USB Type-C ports, wireless charging pad, and much more. As for safety, the Taigun comes with six airbags, ESC (standard across all trims), tire pressure deflation warning, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The new Taigun will come with two turbo-petrol engine options, One will be a larger 1.5-liter, four-cylinder unit that produces 150hp and 250Nm, and gets a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Customers have the option to choose different automatic gearbox options depending on the engine variant. As the 1.0 TSI gets a 6-speed torque converter and the 1.5 TSI gets a 7-speed DCT automatic.

After reaching the Indian roads, the Volkswagen Taigun will compete against the Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, and MG Hector. Since the competition is high and with the high level of localization, we can expect Volkswagen to price the SUV competitively.
