Volkswagen Passat and Honda Accord have been selling negligible units for quite a while now, with new emission norms these car manufacturers might discontinue their respected cars by stock last.
The D segment is India is deteriorating, with an astonishing rate of negative sales of the Volkswagen Passat and Honda Accord. Both of these cars were once the stepping stone into the luxury and with this rate we see the death of Passat and Honda Accord coming by. According to SIAM dispatch figures, Volkswagen did not ship even a single Passat to its dealers in July, August and even In September 2019, whereas the Honda Accord has been dealing with zero sales since the beginning of this year.
Volkswagen Passat which is currently priced at 25,99,00 (ex-showroom Delhi) available in four variants with its premium features such as LED headlamps, DRLs, all leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof and some amazing features like automatic parking as well, The Passat has been performing not so well since July 2019, moreover Volkswagen itself didn’t ship this car to the dealers since July 2019, as of now there hasn’t been any news of discontinuing the Passat from Volkswagen but it might be an indication that the dealers are letting go of the stocks and as no new orders are placed the car might be off the Indian market soon. Despite being the favorite choice of D segment sedan car in the European market the VW Passat isn’t performing well in here; say it the fever or fad of the SUVs and Compact SUVs in India or not but it clearly tells us that D segment is hitting on the ground.
Honda Accord, on the other hand, has not sold a single unit since the beginning of this year, with, surprisingly the sales of 2018 were also 0 units to which Honda India has also not made any official statement that the car has been discounted or not. The car, however, continues to be on the official website of Honda India which is currently priced around INR 44.48 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) in India. It is one of the first premium offerings that was a Hybrid in India, with some of the amazing features which have turned more common these days are the LED DRLs, 7-inch touch infotainment system massive legroom and 424 liters of boot space.
With the introduction of the BS-VI norms there is a fear for deletion of the entire segment, what do you think of it, will the Honda Accord and the VW Passat return to India with updated versions, or these cars are doomed and there is no returning back.
